Well, I'm no longer a tire-kicker. I bought the Ex and drove it home. No issues on the drive. Good thing because the airline lost my bag with tools (and CPS). That made the inspection a little more difficult than it needed to be. All major systems looked good with very little rust. Quite a few little things showed up in the inspection, many of which I only found because of suggestions from you all. Talked him down some, but probably overpaid. I still like it though. Ordering parts now. Made the whole 712 mile trip on one tank! Only hit one raccoon.
1st order of business is flush and change the coolant. I know the dealer I bought it from didn't have the right stuff in it.
I've already read Gooch's coolant thread. Great stuff.
The dealer couldn't remember what brand or type of coolant. Cheapest I'd guess. He also said they didn't add SCA because "modern diesels don't need it". I didn't argue.
I've already got my Rotella ELC. Just need to get a thermostat and maybe a housing. Water pump isn't showing any signs of leaking so I'm just going to run it 'till it dies.
I wouldn't worry about whether or not you overpaid.
There are a whole bunch of us on here that use our excursions to tow a travel trailer. It would be hard to argue there is a better vehicle for that than the Excursion. Enjoy !

Figure I'll ask here rather than start a new thread since I too am looking for an Excursion. I'm looking purely as a family/gear hauler so I'm going for the v10. I'd love to have a 7.3 but can't justify the extra cost.
Now my only question is in regards to price. What's considered fair for a v10 with under 150k miles? Blue book puts it at 8 to 11k, but i know it's not always accurate for a hard to find or popular limited vehicle. My searches on autotrader have found anywhere from 10k to 20k.
Now is 10 more in line and there are just some really hopeful people, or is a 17 to 12 year old vehicle still really worth almost $20k?

Nick, don't be shy about starting a new thread for your search, we can and have helped folks here find nice rigs in the past.
Location, Southern/Western salt free wagons will always be worth more as they should and of course condition and history will dictate prices.

That's why I get confused. I'm in Indiana but searching nation wide, and finding lots in the southwest and California, but I'm seeing the same thing. 11 to 20k.
