i did my testing tonight and found the refractometer very cool. Consistency and accuracy is likely much better. My tanks coolant, both, measured -40°F.
But I do have a few questions and confirmations.
First I did pull from the degas tanks. On the secondary I really had to fish the hose down and somewhat jam it past what felt like baffles. Not hard but not as easy as the primary tank. Sound about right?
Second when I read the directions on the nitrate test strips it said if the nitrate section on the test strip, when taken from the package, was brown to discard it and not use that strip. Is brown not the same as tan/off white? On both test strips, the nitrate test section looked off white or light tan right out of the pack. I assumed this is different than "brown" so tested, and after the test, when matching it to the color chart on the test card, it really didn't match anything. It had no change in color. So I assume no nitrates at all are present which is good. Sound right? Here's a pic after the test. The nitrate test is on the left. Both tests looked the same, meaning both tanks/cooling systems.
