My Bro in Law is going to look at this one owner 91 F150 Lariat. 81K on it and it looks great. Orignal paint and body looks great. 5.0 Manual. The only body rust is on the bottom of the back bumper as seen it the picture. What could have caused it to only be there. We also have a picture of the underside and no bad rust at all from the pic. He asked the ONE OWNER what caused it and he only said that is the only rust on it. Before we go look I hope someone can tell me if there should be concern and how could this happen. Thanks Sandy
That looks too big to be an original bumper and nothing aftermarket was built as well as the original chrome bumpers these trucks came with. I routinely find original chrome bumpers on trucks in the scrapyard with not a mark on them while the truck they are attached to is totally rotted out.
Here is a pic of the original step bumper on my '90.. notice how it isn't as deep and the difference in the shape.

I assume that you believe it was changed at some point to an aftermarket. If correct I will really check for collision damage in the rear. Thank you Sandy
In thinking he and the ad said the only very small dents on the truck were on the tailgate. Does it look aftermarket?
Yep totally different. Another picture of the 91 appears to show the rear bumper does not sit level with the body. Not much but not right. So I go with damage and cheap replacement. Sound about right? Thanks Sandy
You could order trucks without a rear bumper. Or maybe someone damaged the original one?
We are looking at it tomorrow weather permitting. I think damage was the cause but I will find out when I get under it. I had no idea you could order a bumper delete. Thank you sandy
