ok, now, both of my trucks have painted front bumpers, my 02 sport, and my 09 plat.
On the plat, there are rust spots on the front bumper where it has caught rocks before. My 02 catches just as many rocks....the truck has over 4 times the miles on it....but not these rust issues.
any ideas on solutions, and why does it seem to be such a problem?
I bought a 2010 FX4 and just love it. I was very surprised (and dissapoited) to notice that the lower half of the bumper was painted metal. My previous truck had the same type of front bumper. The rust was unstoppable despite all efforts. This time before I take any more rocks to the bumper I am going to put 3M clear film over top of that part to help protect it. I hope that will do the trick. Any one else do this with success or will it still rust anyway?
Any decent body shop will be able to install that 3M clear protective film to stop the rocks from chipping the paint. I have seen bumpers that have that film on it with absolutely no chips or rust spots.
