Actually we are using the wrong post to be carrying on about the pin weight, box or anything OTHER but using chains. The moderator should move this discussion to the appropriate thread.

With my AUH, I have removed it and put it in the passenger seat or extra cab space in order to get something large into the bed.

I was going to get the Companion hitch as well, but took a chance on the AUH and will never own a different style hitch.

Don't know if your truck has the ability to have the Ford puck system for the Goose ball - but if it does, the goose version of the Anderson leaves NOTHING in the bed.
Nevermind, you're obviously not tracking with what I'm saying. I made it quite simple.

The jaws of a 5th wheel carry no "pin" weight. All they do is hold the pulling/braking weight. The groove machined into the kingpin is locked into the jaw to keep it from popping out the top.

P Bronner, Lippert approves the goosebox for use on their frames and it will not void the warranty. That's good enough for me. The goosebox eliminates the "lever" that the adapter creates by using a pin box designed to go to the bed floor.

I have no skin in this game. I use a Reese elite hitch. I would use a goosebox. I wouldn't use an Andersen, but I'm not going there.

To the OP and to get back on track...........If using a ball hitch, you need chains. Doesn't matter if the ball is on the bumper, receiver, goose or Andersen. If it's a ball connection it needs chains.

Ferggy...in MD you do NOT need chains when using the Anderson. So long as your vehicle is registered in MD you don't need it in any state you drive in.
