i appreciate all the wisdom. But uh. I don't see how you can sit there and say I can't afford something? Like that kinda seems like a personal attack/insult that really isn't needed and uncalled for.
Am am I going out and buying one without a down payment? No. I'm actually going to be putting a substantial down payment down. That I'm currently working overtime at my work to save up. I plan to put 20k down on this truck. So I don't see how I can't " afford "
Listen up, you do not need to justify anything, its your wallet, your purchase, your truck and choice of trim. Maybe its a big stretch, maybe its pocket change.
Working and saving to buy, been there done that. When I was 9 years old a Corvette passed us on the highway and I fell in love. I worked to save my money. Moved lawns, dug fence posts, built fence, worked as a ranch hand and did anything I could to make a dime or a quarter. Rode that school bus to school everyday till Christmas of '64 when my Daddy said, son I think you got enough money now to put down...Dad signed for me and I had a $41 buck a month car payment, drove to school after Christmas break in my new Corvette Stingray, 327/375HP, 4 sp, 4.11 gears.
No need to justify anything to anyone, just save your money and one day drive up in the big King Ranch and be sure to post a pic on here...
Beyond the leather, I'll note that the "wood" trim inserts in the Lariat are purely fake, while the King Ranch and Platinum use genuine wood veneers. If you look closely at the Lariat, you can see the printing pixels. While very thin, the wood in the KR and Plat are real.
In the previous generation, the King Ranch truck got *a lot* more wood compared to a Lariat. With this 2017 generation, the Lariat, KR, and Platinum all get the same exact amount and location of wood. What is interesting is that while the previous generation King Ranch trucks did have a lot more wood, it was all completely fake. So we've made an upgrade in that regard.
Why? It wasn't as soft and very hard to maintain. And honestly I think the KR leather now looks better. But that's just my opinion.
Because for some of us the first gen King Ranch seats looked, smelled, and felt familiar. I looked into swapping the factory leather seats in my '03 Lariat to the new (at the time) King Ranch seats. Just the leather to recover my factory frame and foam was $1,000 per seat. I tried to find some takeoff seats but was unsuccessful. I'm not impressed by the new stuff. But that's just my opinion.
I loved my 2006 KR leather.
My 2011 and 2015 trucks were/are Lariat because the KR seats just were not worth the difference in price like the old seats were.
I guess I've spent too many hours in a real saddle and know just how durable real leather is. Real leather is individual. No two seats will be alike. Brands, Scars, imperfections in the leather all wear differently over the life of a real leather seat.
This Leatherette or manufactured leather that they use now days offers a nice consistent product that is easy for Ford to warranty and give a wider range of customers a forecasted or predictable future. But it's not like real saddle leather.
Also I suspect there is a problem getting A/C thru a real saddle leather seat
Some of you are saying the seats are the same. I have sat in a king ranch and lariat.., I don't see how it's the same??
the KR leather is thicker to me. At least feels that way. I'm also assuming has less viynl... or none.
I have owned both, 2017 Lariat and currently the 2017 KR, I had 35K when I traded in the Lariat and now I have 47K on the KR. Yes the KR is a thicker leather and holds up better. The KR still looks new with little to no wrinkles(wear marks) . I also believe my KR is 100% leather everywhere. I have tested sides headrests, backs of seats and as soon as I wipe on conditioner it absorbs, everywhere I apply.
I have 63k on my '17 KR--the side of the drivers seat where I slide in/out has begun to show the backing plastic? just as my previous '09 & '10 450s did. The '07 KR 350 I had was the stiffest seat upholstery I ever sat on, and since I did not baby it, showed a lot of color change over 18 months, but it never wore thru in over 100k miles.
