2006 and 2009 V-10

Good Day all,
I shopping for a 3/4 or one ton crew cab short bed. Must be a manual trans.
I have found a 2006 F250 with 118 K and a 2009 with 108K both with V-10's.
My current pickup only gets about 5 to 7 K miles a year so I'm sort of shying away from Diesel. With a 3/4 or 1 ton my wife and I may retire our motorhome for a travel trailer so towing may be involved down the road. Until then it would just be our 7x14 enclosed dirt bike trailer.
Without getting into diesel verses gas bashing. What should I be looking for when inspecting and driving these trucks.
I have a customer with a 99 superduty V-10 pushing 310K miles with no major issues. And we have several friends with class C and class A Motorhomes who have had very few issues with this engine.
Thanks again.

I roll with a V10. I owned a 2006 and now have a 2009! No real problems with these rigs aside of exhaust studs rotting. I would see if either truck has decent maintenance records with it. Transmission servicing is always important I do very low miles with mine as well.

Thanks eberlestock,
Both trucks I'm looking at are manual trans. Did the banks system make a noticeable difference in performance and or fuel mileage?

Don't shy away from the automatic transmissions they put behind the 2005+V-10s. They are excellent towing transmissions, and you actually get a higher towing rating with the automatic.

The manual trans is going to make it tougher to find. The auto (5R110) is god but it could use some tuning to make it much better. But I never was in a super duty that had a stock auto trans that didn't need a good tune IMO. A good set of headers like in the banks kit will help with power but don't expect any mpg difference. I have headers, intake, custom tune, etc on my 04' and mpg didn't really change from stock. Just more power. If you go with the Banks kit i would still get a custom tune, skip the ottomind thingy.

I would check the auto's also, I have a 2008 F250/CC/SB?V10 and pull a 12K 5th wheel and the trans works great!

The 2005+ V10 is such a good find. Great looking trucks with a super reliable and strong motor. If you can find a manual tranny and want it, then I would get it. Those are getting harder to find everyday since they quit using them in 2011. There will always be a solid resale market for the manual tranny trucks.

I added the banks cat back exhaust only. I really haven't driven it since installing it but don't expect a real world gain. The 5 star tuner I DO expect to add a noticeable performance gain. When the snow melts up here I will give it a good run to test it out.
