99 v10 auto 4x4. wont go into park completely. have to start in neutral. was fine yesterday, now it doesn't work. if it wasn't snowing like crazy id just crawl around and find out. do our trucks have a linkage? or shift cable? I imagine im just out of adjustment somewhere. any advice what to look for or where to start when the snow finally stops??
There could be ice built up where the cable attaches to the trans. Or if the shifter feels sloppy, there are two bolts the attach the shift cable to the bracket near the bottom of the steering column that often loosen. They are #30 Torx.
My '99 F350 v10 shift indicator is way off. My shifter reads off by 1 gear, I've learned to shift by feel. The torx bolts have been tightened. I've read there is an adjustment "clip" down near the trans, to loosen and have a helper shift through all the gears back to park holding the shifter up in correct spot, then tighten the clip. To get the indicator to read properly.
If there is excessive slop in the shifter a set a new bushings will fix that, but I'm going try adjusting once I'm back in CO.
That's the adjustment to make it shift correctly, not to align the indicator. The indicator adjustment is on the steering column. Take the plastic cover off of the column and you'll be able to see it. There is a small wheel that you turn to align the indicator.
