Mine went into the dealership tonight for a couple other minor issues and I added the tailgate issue to the list and included the TSB number. Mine may have come open a couple times but being the space cadet that I am I can't rule out operator error.
Stopped at nearby dealer and they have never heard of this problem. Gave them the TSB # and the parts are now ordered. I am disconnecting the tailgate harness for now until parts come in. Looks like its a pretty big job to switch everything over.
Had this happen to me this morning, lost a dead lamp meant for the dump somewhere on the road.
Was firmly closed, with 2 hands, so something electronically opened it. I got out of the truck once on way in, never noticed the tail gate till i had to use the camera while parking.
Ugh.
the faulty connector is above the gas tank-confirmed.
Good to know, I figured that would be the problem. Our connectors in the rear were full of water, thought I would give that a try first with dielectric grease. Why would Ford install connectors on the bottom of the truck that hold water? Waterproof connectors have been around for a long time, some bean counter cheaped out and now we have to deal with this problem.
The dealership was unable to reproduce the issue. Well no kidding, it's been dry. I gave them the TSB information too. I'm not surprised.
I get mine to do it when driven in rain or washing it. Spray water in the driver wheel well and underneath in that area by the tank, gets it to act up. This is such a stupid problem. Why come out with something that doesn't work properly? I cannot buy a tonneau hard cover until this is fixed and even then Im afraid if there is a failure how am I going to get into the bed? Sure miss my 2012 that had an electric lock but a handle to open and close.
Since when is it necessary to have and pay for all those sissy options anyways? Electronic tailgate releases to help you load your groceries, adaptive steering so you can check your text messages, blind spot warnings because you don't know how to use those huge adjustable side mirrors and all the other nonsense today. Good luck with all that...
Im new
So, is it ok to say " thats a great response" ?
Im not in any way jelous either. I just think its too much fluff. I traded a 2014 Duramax 2500 hd for the 2017 6.2 work truck. I had all the fancy stuff and didnt use it or think it was justified. Everyone likes different stuff.
My opinion, since ive gotten older, is sometimes its just better to keep it simple.
Im worried that ford has introduced a safety issue by putting an electric motor in between the driver and the front wheels. Im glad i didnt go for that option.
Not unlike the trailer backing assist. Thats just rediculous. Im thinking if you cant back the trailer up without electronic assitance, you probably should not own the trailer. jmo
Im all for backup cams and parking sensors but the rest of the stuff is trouble waiting to happen to your wallet after the warranty expires.
Had my tailgate fall just as we were pulling out of the camp site yesterday. I did release the emergency brake just before pulling away. Fortunately wife saw it was down before I got too far into a turn.
Twice in last 2 days. Both time after releasing the parking brake. Am I lightly touching the button or is the vibration of the release making it happen....
Dealer had the truck for a whole day, "could not duplicate" the tailgate falling on its own. They wont use my videos as evidence for repair AND my truck is not covered by the TSB now, production date is newer than what is covered. Wire harness connectors fill with water causing wackiness to happen. Guess I am going to have to figure a fix on my own until a TSB is issued covering my production date.
