I agree. It's one thing if we're talking about a German luxury car, but on a 1 ton truck I wouldn't want them.

Not sure yet, but maybe the dealer found the cause of my tailgate falling unintentionally. The tailgate release switch is mounted on the dash just above the parking brake release. I believe the vibration of releasing the park brake could activate the release switch (if the switch is defective).
You should contact the dealer and the Ford Customer Care people. I also recommend asking for reimbursement for the jack replacement.

tailgate falls by itself

Different "STROKES" for different folks. If everybody wanted the same options then there would be only one manufacturer making one particular car or truck.

Oh, I hate to hear that because I use my parking brake almost all the time. Again, the remote tailgate release has got to be the most useless "convenience" offered on these trucks.

I have not heard from dealer. Maybe I need to call Ford on this one. Weather the Tailgate switch is defective or not, how is it possible that I have a light on dash that tell me my fuel cap is not on, or passenger door is not closed all the way, but nothing to tell me my tailgate fell or is open. Makes no sense if it is automatic control. I got very lucky the first two times it happened and never made a sharp turn with trailer. This time not so lucky .

After releasing parking brake at boat dock, my tailgate fell open. I was able to duplicate 2X to my dismay.

Can we disable the tailgate auto release through FORSCAN?

My plan is to install an inline on/off switch in the wire which activates the solenoid. Haven't looked yet, but I'm hoping I can locate that switch behind the fuel door. There's another tailgate thread in this forum which identifies the target wire.

Aren't they for turning power on and off? I imagine you could rewire to deactivate the tailgate circuit, but I wonder if that would make the computer think there's a problem and throw a code. My plan is just to prevent the signal from reaching the solenoid until I want it ... and I want that on/off ability on the outside of the truck.

Check the following post to view a schematic. The GREEN/WHITE wire to the actuator is the one I'm targeting.

I would install a inline switch to act as a lockout or safety.
