05 6.0 f350. I am in need of an alternator replacement. The factory is going out right as I am about to install a sound system. I can't get to fancy at the time, with that said I don't expect to get 5 years out of one. I need a budget, yet reliable alternator for the time being.
All I will have drawing extra power is a stereo, subwoofer, and amplifier, running 300 rms.
I am not looking to invest in replacing the wiring at this time, so I am looking at something along these lines. Any opinions on which I should choose, or a better alternative at a similar price? I figured 135-185 amp would suffice.
I'm not much of a music lover, hardly ever listen to the radio unless it's a CD so this is what I would do. I've been through the "budget" alternator issues which left me dead in the water at night in Needles, Ca.
So, I would put the sound system on hold and spend my money on a brand NEW alternator that matches your truck. The ebay unit might be a good part but who knows what they really did to rebuild it.......up to you and what your prioritys are.
I already have the sound system installed and ready to go, wires ran and ready to connect, but I won't connect it knowing it will likely leave me stranded if I draw the extra power.
The bosch alternator has some good reviews from amazon. I have also seen forum reviews saying DB electrical from ebay is not bad either. If I could spend 300 or more right now I would have just purchased from DC Power or alternator parts, but unfortunately I have to budget with one that will get me by for even just the next year.
Hard for me to reply to this thread without giving my $.02 with personal feelings involved.............. So I won't.
Here is my experience:
I have purchased from DB Electrical, directly through their website. I purchased the 140AMP from them.
When I installed it I found out that the voltage regulator inside the alternator was bad .
Then I decided to call up Ed at FICMrepair.com , he worked something out with me and I bought the 185Amp DC Power.
Then I called DB Electrical and they warrantied the bad one. They paid ALL the shipping for the old one to them, and the new one to me. I have an extra 140amp sitting in my basement for just in case.
DB Electrical stood behind their product 100%, with very few questions asked.
Would I go through DB Electrical again? Maybe, but I shouldn't have to now that I have a DC Power one. My problem is that I can't afford to be down waiting on replacement parts.

Be sure to watch that FICM and the voltage, they are notorious for dying from bad alternators and/or batteries.
