E40D issues in quigley Ambo

Just wondering if anyone can help me troubleshoot this issue. I have taken this vehicle to the Ford dealership and even though it's all Ford components they told me to take it to a specialty transmission shop. The vehicle is a 1994 quigley converted 4 x 4 ambulance that originally had the 7.3 L diesel motor but was converted to a 460 with the E 40D trans. The motor harness and tans harness along with ECU was swapped over and was from the same year tryck but from an F250. Its an e350 chassis and front end with a horton box. My issues is that it wont stay in overdrive anytime the gas pedal is depressed at all. It can be reving like hell at 65mph and wont go into overdrive unless I let off the gas. It seems to shift fine through the rest of the gears. Even coasting down hill it will drop out of overdrive the second I touch the gas. Has roughly 100,000 miles. There does not apear to be any manual adjustments. Ford dropped the pan amd replaced the filter. That was it. Let me know if you have any insight?! Thanks!

Sounds like a control problem rather that a transmission problem, my first thought would be with the TPS switch or MAP sensor. Anyway to monitor these with a scanner?

It's likely that the FIPL (Fuel Injection Pump Lever) sensor isn't adjusted right. This is the sensor that tells the computer how far you've pressed the go pedal. It performs the same function as the throttle position sensor on a gas engine.

I don't have the adjustment procedure for this. It's critical to get it adjusted correctly.

Thanks-I will check that out. Know its location?

Is that still going to apply to his van?

Hes been converted over to a 460 including the pcm, engine and transmission harness. Would leave me to believe he is running a tps.

Yes, this has a TPS. It's located on the side of the throttle body. I don't know if the TPS on the 460 was adjustable or not.

A badly adjusted sensor won't set a code or flash the light.
