Can speedometer be calibrated/repaired?
The speedometer in my 79 f150 is inaccurate and starts fluctuating/shaking above the 55 mph mark. Comparing it to my phone's GPS it seems to be accurate at around 40 mph and then starts to diverge, when I am going 50 it shows 55, at 55 it shows 65. I have a new speedometer cable in it. Probably it is cheap enough to pick one up on ebay, but I was wondering if anybody has fixed/rebuilt one of these.

Cable, plastic gear on end in trans, instrument cluster speedo housing..no much to it. Might be easier to just check and replace parts as needed?

I do not know of any rebuild/calibration tricks other than changing gear end with different teeth count for putting on bigger tires.

I just pulled a speedo mech from 75 F-100 the other day if you want it. PM me if you're interested. I believe the 78/79 ones were of the 80mph variety; this one is of the 100mph variety. I would think they are interchangable, but not sure. The two part numbers on the speedo mech I pulled are D3TF-17265AA and D5TF-17265AA.
