on my 78 the speedometer was working fine yesterday and it no worky today. I took the cable off the trans and the gear looked fine and tight .Could it have broke inside the cable????How hard are they to replace????How do tou get it disconnected from the cluster. Thier is a cable still on my 74 donor truck that the trans came outa with that cable work/???? oh ya the 74 has a 100mphspeedo, my 78 has an 85 mph speedo if that make a diffrencebut they(look) the same??
I have NEVER replaced a clable before I need kindergraden baby steps explained to me!

You need to remove the cluster.
Instructions for this can be found by searching "Cluster removal*
The speedometer cable behind the speedometer requires a *squeeze the plastic collar & pull the cable away from the speedo head.
Replacing an 85 with 100mph speedo doesn't require anything special.
The speedo is calibrated the same, The difference is in the transmission cable gear when Gear ratios have changed in the rear end,* You don't have that problem*
