You know the story...it's sad but true...about part numbers that we once knew.
In the late 1980's, the IDIOTS at FoMoCo changed the package quantity of a gazillion parts.
When the IDIOTS did this, they changed the part numbers suffix, rendering all the previous part numbers obsolete.
Yep. I remember that. If they re-boxed those parts in "quantity per vehicle" it wouldn't have been so bad. But they didn't. Like the C3DZ3517A I mentioned above when I thought Brian needed a bearing for his original Bump column. C3DZ3517A is now packed in a box of FOUR. Outside of this 3517, usually the part number change was because of the new quantity.
I have a 76 column in my 68 and also a 77 column I'm rebuilding (auto/ps). Neither has a spline at the bottom. The both have the flange for the flexible coupling.

The column I'm working on is from 76 power steering floor shifter. I will be getting a rag joint coupler from borgsen 3/4 spline to 3/4 spline
So in case anyone wants to know I have cleaned everything. Bearings were salvageable, I was able to get the lower bearing retainer apart using a stanley knife. Just whittled a little until the plate came loose. Lower bearing rubber holder thingy was ripped in half but I already had a new one off e-bay. So today I finished cleaning the turn signal switch. I checked the self canceling and it still works, so I am going to use it. I'm still working on the paint on the column, I had a little do over because the paint blistered. It was a small spot bu it was on the top of the column so it would be visible by me mostly. A little wet sanding and some more paint and I think it will pass.
Turn signal switch all cleaned up.
The lower bearing assembly ready to be reassembled.
The lower bearing assembly together, notice the nail or should I say hot nail. I used it to melt the tabs that hold the retainer on. I will probably use a hot glue gun on it before it goes back in the column.
