Steering Column
Is it from the front of the spline to the top of the column before the steering wheel ?
I have a '49
I have the Toyota Box installed and bought the Borg U-Joint for the Toyota box to match the GM 40-something spline 1" diameter column.
My Column needs to be Column shift and I'd like (but don't need) Column Ignition Key.
The Steering Column I have is too long (35 inches spline to rear of steering wheel) I need a shorter one. Even if I lose my belly, it's too long.
I've seen the threads on Columns but I'd like some experience with the Toyota box in the Bonus-Built applications.
Happy New Year you bunch 'a Knuckleheads....

I forgot to mention in my PM to you, I mounted my Toyota steerintg box a bit uncoventionally. Instead of mounting it in the original location I mounted it up ahead of the axle;

Seriously Bobby thats a work of art. I hope you remembered to measure twice cut once on that setup. Was that necessary to clear the big caddy block?
I suspect his shifter is set up in a similar fashion.......... Hee Hee !!!

Well, I started out on this project by installing the engine. I managed to fab my engien mounts and have room for exhaust, etc. This was back in 2002 or 2003. then I started thinking about steering, etc. While searching the net I found some articles about the Toyota steering box, I also stumbled on John Noilons FTE article about installing a Mustang gas tank, which of course led me to FTE (after that I was hooked)
....anyway I found a toyo box and installed it. It cleared the Caddy exhaust but the inner power steering hose only had a 1/4" clearance from the exhaust manifold. I thought about modifying the engine mounts and raising the engine slightly but in the end decided to move the steering box.
I'm driving the truck now and so far, so good on the steering. I do want to replace my column with a cool, mostly chrome column from a 63 Buick Riviera which would allow me to move my intermediate shaft over the top of the frame rail and allow me to install my chrome headers on the big Caddy....woohoo
Dawg....reversed steering and shifter......it makes for a great theft deterrent...lol

The u-joint I used fit the toy spline end at the gearbox but had a 3/4" "double-D" fitting on the other. So I just cut the shaft and reground the "double-D" and redrilled the hex key hole.
If you buy anything like this you can always go shorted after a test fit...it's a little more difficult to add length.
I hope you find a good setup....Ed
