Was hoping some of y'all could help me identify the front axle in my 1971 F250 highboy. My warranty/info plate is missing off the door so can't find out that way. I am guessing it's a Dana 44hd due to 446cf being cast near the deferential cover, but was hoping someone could confirm or deny it.
Info tag that was bolted to the deferential cover 446cf cast on the support gusset
Ok. I'll count the knuckle bolts when I get home. Are all the bearings and spindle bushings the same between the two axles? I know they need to be replaced in mine and want to make sure I get the right parts.
The knuckles have 8 bolts so I guess its not a HD axle. Is there a way to tell if the deferential is a traction lock or not by the id tag? Also where would be the best place to source new spindle bushings, knuckle seals?

These old dana 44 are turning into a can of worms once you start pulling it down. I rebuild my 44 to the best, I could finding parts down took some time after about 1k into it and still had a slightly tweaked axle which I found out in to end no company makes after market axle for these old close knuckle axles.
A yr later came across a HD44=3500Lbs. disc brake axle with external hubs.
So rebuild the disc axle hub to hub new HD Axle end up putting in about $1300.
I tried selling the old axle no takers, so tried giving it away and still no takers so have cut the axle tubes off so that, I could handle it took half to PnP and the rest gave to a metal scrap iron guys.
TQ King has mostly all the hard parts to find but he's high as hell so if you've got money he's got it.

Thanks for all the help. While I'm at it i guess I should also replace the inner axle seals. Any tips on how to replace them or where I should get them?

I got all my 44d stuff online made by Timken.
You got a remove the ring & pinon, I got a 4' length thick wall 1" PVC. pipe and put it in the axle tube till it came up to the seal and knocked it inward to pop out.
Then I made up a 3/4"x12" all thread with large washer & nuts that was to push the seals inward as to turn them outward it tighten up to the seal pushing them in
.
If you have a helper you can drive the seals in with a the PVC pipe by putting the all thread into the 4' Long and one person keep it aligned at the seal an other with a hammer to drive it into place.
I now can't remember but think they are the same. But maybe ND of Jeff will chime in. I used the same install tool on my regular dana 44 is 3000LB rated & the HD Disc 44 is 3500lbs I've herd that the axle tube were thicker an should not be any different in the axles themselves, But hear say only.
This is one of those times what Ford did doesn't make sense. Originally there was a B9TZ3248A "axle guide" right next to the B9TZ3254A inner axle seal. The B9TZ3254A was simply discontinued and the B9TZ3248A axle guide was replaced by a C6TZ3254C SEAL. I assume either will work but I don't understand why Ford didn't replace the B9TZ3254A with C6TZ3254C.
So, these places show as having both B9TZ3254A and C6TZ3254C. Bob Allen Ford...WHATCH THESE GUY'S PRICES.
