just bought a set of group 31s for the 01.
the stock battery trays are going to have to be modified/deleted in order to run them.
not a big problem minus the fact that I may have to change the window washer reservoir.
anyone have a set of these batteries in the stock location?
this is on the list to do today, if you got em, please leave a pic!
I seem to recall another recent thread with something similar, but they were looking to mount them between the frame rails or something along those lines. What made you decide to change to group 31's?
I needed batteries, and the stock batteries were 160 a piece, with I believe 700 CCA's
I got these for 110 a piece with a 5 year warranty. and have 1000 cca's a piece
, I fricken hate lead post batteries!
well took me longer than I thought, calling it a day short today, gonna spend the rest of the day with the kiddos
minor modifications to the truck itself
cut the existing tab for the inside battery support off, and dropped it down 3/4-1"
welded it back on.
used 1x1 angle and made a box,
added some 2" strap In the middle for the inside support.
then took some 4" strap and made a outside bracket to the existing mounts on the left side support.
I notched a little corner in the sheet metal so the battery wouldn't rub on it.
I did get the battery strap bent 1" metal strap, but I have not drilled the holes for the bolts.
charge pipe has sufficient room also,
and more than enough room from the top of the lugs to the hood.
if I get shop time tomorrow, ill do the pass side, which will be almost the same
except for it will be easier after I cut up the support mount.
don't have to do jack crap for the washer reservoir except for to pull it for welding.
60 bucks in steel
220 for batteries
a few hours makin it work.
well worth it.
Very nice. I have to say that I wish I had your fabrication skills. I kind hold my own but you definitely dive into things I would only dream of doing.
and its complete, hold downs and all.
I didn't get as detailed pics of this side, well because its the same process, just flipped.
came out decent. and I will add to the drivers side to hold my air filter the next time I work on it.
