OK,
I need an answer to the age old question of which gender mounted ICM does my truck use? I know there are grey ones and black ones, what years use which color? I have read two different versions on this site on different threads so what is the correct answer please. I have also read that the truck will run with either just not ad good is that also correct?

1994 and later Ford trucks use the black colored (Ford/Motorcraft) CCD-Style Ignition Control Module.
1993 and earlier Ford trucks use the gray colored (Ford/Motorcraft) Push-Start style Ignition Control Module.
Even Ford's documentation has them turned around.
1992 and later trucks use the remote mount ICM. Implied from above the 1992 & 1993 trucks use the remote mount version gray ICM. 1994 and later trucks use the remote version black ICM.
1991 and earlier trucks use distributor mounted ICMs. All of these will have a distributor mounted gray colored ICM.
1993 and earlier Ford trucks use the gray colored (Ford/Motorcraft) Push-Start style Ignition Control Module.
