TFIV Ignition Module

Hey guys

I want your opinion about this:

From 1985 to 1991, F150 4.9L did use a Ignition module installed over distributor. 1992 and newer trucks use the module installed on Left fender, know as Remote Ignition, this is to reduce the operating temperature for the module, extending its life...

After doing a lot of electrical research, I notice the Ignition Module over distributor seems to be same used on Remote Ignition, at least the pin-out for the connector looks like same.

The difference are just the 3 pins used on Distributor Ignition which are not used on Remote Ignition version, so...

My question: is true you can just cut and insulate the 3 pins and use the Distributor Module in a Remote Ignition module application???

Any comments will be appreciated.

It shouldn't really be a problem to remote mount the module. I doubt any signal it is sending can be affected by a few feet of wire.

Yes, your are right, actually there several truck models using that configuration, but my concern is relative to the 3 pins to be cuted, somebody have try that?

I think we are having a miss communication here. By remote mounting, I am suggesting you use your existing TFI module and mounting it on the fender.

Ok now I get it...

What I'm pretending is this:

1º Get a distributor Closed Bowl to exchange the old DI model
2º Make the proper changes to wiring harnes
3º Take the actual ICM from the old DI distributor and install it over a heat sink on left fender, of course cutting the 3 not used pins.

So will save some money because I won't have to buy another ICM...

Don't cut the pin's off, I did what you are doing and well, the TFI did not work afterwards. The internal circutry was dammaged by the shock of cutting them. I wound up using the non 3 pin TFI and close bowl for my project.
