question about 'TFI module'/'ICM'

I have a '92 F150/5.0 that has a dead TFI module or ICM (call it what you will). Mine is the remote mount model that goes on the firewall. On the Ford Motorcraft website, there are 2 different listings for either the firewall mount one or the distributor mount one. But, every parts store I've been too only has the distributor mounted style. I already pulled mine out of the truck, and it looks almost like it's just the distributor mount one attached to a heat sync. Am I right in thinking I can just take mine apart and swap the actual module part? Thanks.

the existing one is a Motorcraft E7DF-12A297-A1A, close but not exactly the same. I actually did get a new module for a distributor mount and it interchanged with the old one perfectly, haven't tried it out yet. I guess I'm just hoping the guts of the modules are the same so I can get my truck running. Thanks.

Yes. Make sure you use the dielectric compound that should have came with it, or your new one won't last long.
