Yes it's an oem motorcraft product. From what I've read the grey module is a push start module and the black module is a CCD module, but it's also said Ford switched from push start to CCD in 1990-1991.
Ford switched the F-series trucks from Push-Start to CCD ignition in 1994.
1992 and 1993 trucks will use a remote mount gray colored Push-Start ICM. 1991 and earlier trucks use a gray colored distributor mounted Push-Start ICM.
1994 and later trucks use the remote mount black colored CCD style ICM.

It took a lot of arguing with my parts guy to get him to realize that there is a difference and that the grey module would not work in the 97 I was working on. It took me installing the module and running it until the CEL came on to get him to find me a black one.
The parts counter jockeys are not at fault here. Even Ford's documentation is wrong for this vintage truck. The Lemmings syndrome propagated to the aftermarket as well.
This is a very common issue sad to say. Ask for an Ignition Control Module (ICM) for a 1994-1995 Mustang with a 5L engine. That will make them happy

I can verify the ford info being wrong. Ford info says that all ICMs have been superseded to the gray. My problem with it is I told him when I handed it to him that it HAS to be a black one because they are different. Even worse is that he has been in the parts game for 40 years for ford and went through this when they were being replaced like crazy and he still wouldn't listen
