DEF.....what are you using
You can call BS all day if you want. You might have got along with Peak brand, but I'm relating his experience and what his GM dealer told him. He's now been in twice for this same issue. He tried to use up the remainder of the Walmart DEF he had left over by dumping it in a little at a time mixed with GM brand DEF and the truck threw a code. He's not happy.
I'm not downing your Duramax, it appears some are very touchy with DEF.
reading the Ford DEF system.. design description..
Towing uses Less DEF as cylinder Heads reach a higher temperature and needs Less DEF... for cleaning.
or do I have it wrong???
I believe what you are referring to is the DPF - the particulate filter portion of the emissions system. Very high exhaust gas temps will "self clean" the DPF rather than needing to perform an active regeneration of the DPF, which uses additional fuel injected into the cylinders on the exhaust stroke.
Sometimes it can be hard to keep track of all the emissions controls on a modern diesel...there are many.
