I went to wal-mart and bought 8 gals of FINAL CHARGE. It is the red stuff and I am good for 300,000 miles. Same thing as the rotella brand.

I believe the FC is ~$10/Gallon, and it's the 50/50 premixed stuff. BUT you'd have to do a complete flush to get most of your green stuff out. They say you don't have to on their site, but I wouldn't be comfortable just dumping it in without a good flush...

NAPA has the non-premixed stuff according to FC, but I don't know what they charge for it...

I don't remember how much it was. I flushed the system with water I bought at wal-mart, 20 gals@ .69 per gal. Then put in the Final Charge, it is a 50-50 blend so use it straight. FWIW I could only get 6 gals in, they say 8 gals.

I also changed to the 203* stat, and the billit housing. I went to IH and bought new bolts for the housing, they are cheap.
I also changed the hoses and belt. easyer to change all together.

Here is where you can get the stat and housing. http://www.dieselsite.com/index.asp?...S&Category=203

That's because it's nearly (if not totally) impossible to get all the water out. That's why it's better to use the full strength stuff and pour in all 4 gallons before you top off with distilled water. BUT, where you are, it certainly doesn't get cold enough to need the bottom freeze protection that 50/50 gets you. The only thing I'd be concerned with is whether or not you have enough to protect everything from corrosion or from bearing wear. But I'm **** that way...

I think it will be fine. I even drained to block on the drivers side. You are right about the freeze protection where I live. I am 11 miles from the Gulf of Mexico, and 30 miles from the Texas line. I should be good.

The horror stories people must have with parts houses. There could be a thread about these stories that would go on forever.

the only good thing about the area I'm in now is I don't have to buy parts at chain stores,I have two stores that cater to truckers and other stores where I can buy name brand parts
I can buy oem or name brand parts for around the same price as the chain stores
