Yeah, this guy kills me. Yet, no proof. Scan the ticket and let's see it. If you can't come up with the proof then don't continue this conversation. There is NO way that you can do this if a Lightning can't go faster than that, their top speed is 140 mph. Heck, I have had my monster up to 160 kph (100 mph) and she still is going strong, just too many hills in the way to go any faster.

If he's still yapping over at F-150online ask him what rpm he was turning at that speed. See if he answers a simple question.

If that guy wants a vehicle that can go 140 miles per hour or faster, why did he buy a truck? He should have bought and modified a Mustang GT or Cobra for weekends at the track or drag strip, and kept his truck as a daily driver. Those vehicles are designed to go fast and sit low to the ground. I'd hate to see the ticket he would get if he got caught driving at that speed, that is if he didn't kill himself or somebody else first. Sometimes money and common sense don't go together, I guess.

you're right, that guy was a clear case of diarrhea of the mouth and/or brain.
BTW I checked out your 65. Sweet. Does the 390 happen to have a steel crank? Not that you'd want to build a monster 406 or anything like that!

I have no idea, I haven't been into the engine. I am going to be taking the "Power By Ford" Valve covers off tomorrow. I have a set of aluminum "cal-custom" covers from the 60's that will be painted and polished. (covers painted, ribs polished), mainly because I need to put ne valve cover gaskets on it. SO I fugured why not change the covers at the same time>

Sounds sweet! I have a pair of the Aluminum Holley valve covers polished up waiting to go onto the next FE that gets built. Found them on an engine out to the junk yard and couldn't resist.

Brad,
The thing about these covers is that there aren't any logos on them. They are just finned all the way across the top. And they have smooth sides. These things exude 60's coolness.
I'll have to take a picture of them before & After. I am going to polish the ribs on my buffer, and paint the rest of the cover.
Then I'll find me an air cleaner that will be a close match and do the same. But for now I'm going to get a good sized chrome steel job. Nothing too tall, but I am going to get one about 14 inch though.

Sounds pretty tight! I love to see classic vehicles all done up like they would have been at the time. For some reason that just looks cool to me.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 17-Dec-01 AT 00:41 AM (EST)]I had a big message typed up, but then I saw the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th pages and figured he'd probably heard enough from everybody else. Ive done my share of rolling around and pulling some high speed back road crazies to evade some cops that would make the dukes of hazard flinch. It all came into perspective when I jumped a hill on the "roller coaster road" one day and passed a kid on a bike while I was still airborne. Had he been two feet closer to the center of the road, I would have killed him. Cherish life and try to find a safer way to get your jollys.

noticed how the kid and I do mean kid hasn't replied since you guys started to call his bluff? I have 1994 f-250 with a 460 and would love to get 275 ponies out of it . I think horse power is around 245 stock. Any ideas on getting a little extra out of it. Got a 18 inch free flow cat from Summit to keep it legal in Massachusetts and a Force II cat back exhaust system to finish it off. I love the sound you can get from a manual tranny

This is just a reply to FatForty. I don't appreciate your stereotype. By saying it's probably a 17-19 yr old kid doing this stuff is offensive to me, because I am 18 and don't do any of those kinds of things, especially because I am smart enough to know that it isn't even possible to get my truck at that high of speed. Plus I wouldn't want to pay a huge fine for speeding, or spend time in a jail cell because I seriously injured or even killed someone. I love my Ford truck, and definitely would not to do anything to hurt it, or me, or anyone else for that matter. So I guess I am just trying to get the point across that it is bad to stereotype people, for any reason. Thanx for letting me put my two cents in. Matt

I'd like to add to that comment, i am 17 years old, and love my ford truck since i bought it a year ago, love it to death. The fastest i have ever gone is 85 mph in it, i save my speed thrills for my snowmobile on a lake or field, where it is much safer.
