DarkStarMedia, first thing I found out were the Ford motor mounts are not centered on the engine. The center is about 2" off so It's tail heavy just now. Changing that tomorrow. Will get dimensions but let me play with it a little bit.
MisterCMK, it wouldn't go to waste, and I would love the knowledge I would get from it.
Thanks.... Keep us (or at least me) updated... I look forward to it. Also... It appears that the OEM stand mounts appear centered but offset the engine below the blocks center of gravity...
Even with Amazon the price for that part because it's from OTC is crazy.
All you really need is an old set of engine mounts to work from. That was my
plan so I could build a stand and start on a really nice engine. Sort of take
my own sweet time at it. The one thing I would do for sure is start with a 20mm
dowel block to take advantage of all the updates.
Sean, my dumb azz didn't realize that was 020 oversized bore. Don't know if I have 20mm or 18mm dowels. By the way that bore is a plus. I ordered standard bore. Put engine in today. At my speed it'll probably be 3 weeks before I fire it off. Engine stand worked great. Need to make adjustments, but I really like it.
Finally got it. Have almost 100 miles on new engine. No leaks no misses and learned a ton. I made 2 mistakes that cost me time. While I was trying to find the problem with the old engine it showed contribution on #8 I replaced it. It also showed a intermediate on and off code for #5. I forgot about that one and had to go back in after engine was installed and cab back on. I did not air test before putting engine back in and had to go back in again and replace twisted top injector 0 ring on #7. Other than that she idles as smooth as any 6.0 I have ever heard. Has a lot of power even tho I haven't done a WOT yet. I'll wait until my 500mile oil change. Many many thanks to Mat and crew at Asheville Engines for building a great engine. There is a few other things I have to attend to such as a "clunk" from underneath when I put it in gear. Also while sitting for a year or better the 20" tires ride like a tank. Many thanks to all here that responded to my "dumb not thought out questions". Grandson #2 almost cried when he saw it finished. It's a gift to him. Now 1 more truck for grandson #3 and I'll be through. Many thanks guys.
Jack, I found the factory seal installation tools at a ambulance maintenance shop 1 block from mine. Went and talked to the guy and ended up making a new friend and borrowing his tool(s). I don't like borrowing tools but at around $800.00+ for the set I swallowed my pride.
Yeah, I hear ya. I can't believe they are so expensive. I'm trying to cost out what a lifter replacement will be and just thought I'd check on the tools. Even Freedom Racing rental is expensive.

They look really simple... I wish I could get a set in my hands so I can run a few copies off on my cnc mill. I can't imagine the tools costing much to make. Just eyeballing them, I would be embarrassed to charge more than $250-$300 for the set though it's had to tell without modeling them.
