Normally in engine terminology a Long block comes with heads.
Short block is no heads and likely no oil par or front and rear covers.
From >>> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_block
Long block is an automotive term for an engine sub-assembly that consists
of the assembled block, crankshaft, cylinder head, camshaft (usually), and valve
train. A long block does not include fuel system, electrical, intake, and exhaust
components, as well as other components (see below for a more complete list).
But you need to check with the builder to really know what they include in a job.
Yes. I am going Long Block. I haven't called them yet. I got busy on a project out of town for a few weeks and should have it wrapped up mid week then back to the fun. If I decide to keep my old engine and rebuild it, I'll have to bore at least 10 thousands. I'm still thinking about that. It would be nice to have a spare not to mention the knowledge I would gain.
If it was me, I would look for a "rebuilder" somewhat close to you that is well versed in the current knowledge of the 6.0 and has had a strong presence online. Whether it's FTE, the org, army or whatever powerstroke forum you spend time on. I know there's a long thread about Asheville on the org that started good, went bad and if I recall correctly, straightened out it's course.
Reading is knowledge.
Thanks. Been reading. Seems there are problems here and there with most of them at one time or another, some small problems and some really big ones. Difference is who stays the course and straightens it out. Thanks again.
Benny, It's still embedded in the piston. Looks like a ball bearing from under the rocker arm, but they are all accounted for. Both sides. Maybe something left over from a previous repair. There is a small piece of metal imbedded just above the bigger one
My neighbors 6.0 needs a long block. I steered him towards Asheville. Hope I steered him right. Anyone have a link to the thread about Asheville on .org?
Sorry for jumping in the middle of your thread Tideman.
Update, Long Block shipped today. Great service!!! Just ordered it yesterday!! Asheville Engines answered all questions worked with me on a few items. Mat stayed in touch as I wallowed around trying to make up my mind on whether to rebuild or go Long Block.
It'll probably take me 4 months to finish this as slow as I am. Can't say enough good about Asheville so far. Hope it stays the same if I have a problem
What was/were the consideration(s) that steered you toward Asheville as opposed to rebuilding it yourself?
Good luck with the build, interested to see its progress.
Went to three local machine shops one had obsolete equipment. The other two were vague about the way they were going to go about the block and heads. I'm sure they are great shops. I probably had my mind already made up about a long block and was wanting them to say something to talk me out of it and they didn't. There is probably $1000.00 more or less from them doing it and me doing it with a long block with them being cheaper. This is a 2007 lariat crew cab. Body and interior are excellent.
