Question Gunna buy my own Timing Gun and Adapter

I've been borrowing a timing gun and ferret piezo adapter whatchathing for too long. It's time to break down and get one for myself. Maybe I can work something out to share it with my fellow Angelenos on the Ford-Trucks IDI forum.

But before I blow 300 bucks, I just wanted to post to the forum to make sure I'm getting the right stuff. Will this work?

https://www.amazon.com/INNOVA-5568-P...us+INNOVA+5568

Ferret Instruments V765-01 Injector Tester - Fuel System Tools

Anything else I need to get? Did you get anything other brands? Did you get anything that worked better?

That looks right. Way over kill on the light but if that is what you want go for it. I don't know how it would pick up RPM but that'd be a nice feature if you don't have someone to step on the pedal for you.

I have two dial-type lights, one super cheap harbor freight and one ancient snap-on garage sale special. Both read the same so good to go!

I use a Kent Moore JJ33300, and a JJ33300-A.
I have found these kits on e-bay for 200 bucks.
simple to use and no relying on a light and timing tape.
I actually have a spare red screen JJ33300, but its just the circuit board, in a oddball box. no probe or line clamp, these items are hard to come by.
im trying to find a good home for it, but most likely it will just sit and collect dust lol

I think its mostly preference, but i wouldnt use a lumy probe personally. Too many perceived variables involved.

That's why I do a bunch of timing driving test runs, and record all my turbo and mpg findings to find the sweet spot for my engine performance. But without a timing light, you cannot know for sure you are advancing or retarding the engine with each adjustment.
