ICP Replacement Tool

Hey all, just wanted to throw this out there because it helped me a ton. I have read everywhere about opinions of being able to go from the top and bottom, inside and out, and everywhere in between when it comes to replacing the ICP on the backside.

I found this at Harbor Freight for $3.99:

I was able to use my 1 1/16" deep socket without having to grind it down or cut it to the proper depth. I could not even get my socket and ratchet onto the ICP no matter how I tried.

I went up through the bottom, slapped this item onto my socket and used a 3/4" ratcheting boxend wrench. OUT IT CAME!!

Anyways, just wanted to share since this little device has come in handy a few times and they are really cheap. Sometimes the deeps are too deep and the shorts are too short. Hope this helps someone in some way

It helps I have arms that reach the darn thing and the truck has enough lift I can about sit up straight underneath.

I forget how i changed mine before, but i know i just used a socket and ratchet. I put in the 04+ intake manifold now though, so that should make things significantly easier

I have changed my ICP three times from the bottom. Twice on a lift and once laying on the ground. Changing out the ICP is a 5 minute job. The hard part is removing and installing the heat shield. I have the special Snap On socket and it makes it easier.

For me, this tool saved a lot of time because I did not have to remove anything from the truck. The heat shield was in the way only because with my deep socket and the ratchet head combined they would not provide enough clearance to even get the socket onto the ICP no matter how I tried. This allowed me to reach up, pop the socket on, put the ratcheting box end on, and out she comes. Nothing else required to remove and reinstall. It cleared the heat shield no problem.

I know some have opted to grind down or cut their deep socket, thus creating a specific ICP socket. I didn't want to cut my socket and also for the price, this set was cheaper than buying a solo socket for alteration. Plus, I have used it several times doing other things where combinations of deep or shallow sockets, extensions, and universal joints would not work.

Anyway, I'm just LOL

Good timing on this post.

Also I am going to go help someone out on Sunday. Where are all the points
that I need to get at to remove that heat shield? Any photos would help.

Thanks

Removing the turbo heat shield with three bolts (2-10mm 1-13mm):

http://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.ford...ea8ba2d5c3.jpg

Use your 1/4 inch ratchet and extension to remove the two 10mm bolts. After that, you need to get the 13mm bolt out. It might be a little tougher to see, but with an extension not hard to remove. The 13mm bolt is on the drivers side of the heat shield...just peak around with your flashlight and you'll find it.

Thought I had better pics Sean, but got a new computer and have lost a few things.
