My 6.0 2005 Excursion has been running great lately except for an issue starting last week.
I go to leave work and it cranks over-and keeps cranking over. I fire up the torque pro app and see that I have no FICM sync. It just reads 0. I pop the hood and fumble around the FICM connectors. Try cranking again and it cranks and cranks and finally kicks in. I have not had this happen since but am paranoid now that this will occur again in the worst possible place and listen to everyone in the family tell me to get rid of my prize and get a newer truck.
I monitor quite a few things on the Torque pro app but could others chime in what I should be monitoring in the meantime to try and solve this issue.
To get FICM sync, you need cam and crank sync. Once those are a 1, FICM should be a 1. So, I'd watch both cam and crank sync. If you have an issue with one of them, first I'd try disconnecting them and cleaning the connector with some spray cleaner, second a wiggle of the wire, they become brittle from heat and eaten up from oil intrusion. If need be, replace the sensor or pigtail if you find the issue.
They will be a 0 or no when KOEO and a 1 or yes once you start cranking. Obviously, one does timing, the other RPM... and both need to be yes or 1 for FICM to be a 1 or yes.
Thanks guys! I will check my sensor this week and have a look at the wiring harness as well.
I would like to set up a separate page on my Torque Pro app to monitor things when I have a starting issue.
Is there a separate PID for the cam and for the crank sensor?
Are there separate PIDs for each injector?
