Tool Collection

Here's mine, now lets see some others. While my collection I know isn't nearly as impressive as others I make full use of what I have within. And like most people, I'm still adding to my collection also. Don't we all love these upcoming Christmas sales, discounts, specials, eh? I had another box that was identical to the bottom one. It was strictly for work and was even more stuffed than these two are, but sadly I had to part with it when I moved here from Southaven.

Nearly 98% of my tools are Craftsman and I've only found a few tools from them that didn't work for me (the laminated pliers come to mind). I've also been extremely organized and while the cutouts in the drawers look nice, it makes it so much easier to find the correct tool, notice a missing one...etc.

To make the cutouts, I used a 2' x 2' rubber interlocking floor tile that's sold usually in the sports department. I trimmed the tile to the drawer size, then laid out the tools as to how I wanted them displayed. At this point it's a good idea to make some room (if possible) for expansion. I've got a few drawers where it's simply stuffed to capacity.

Standard Wrenches: The older forged finished set goes up to a 1", but wish I had few more in larger sizes. In the center row are the line wrenches for brakes lines...etc, and the older styled forged ratchet wrenches. When I first got them I thought that they were a "gimmick" and ended up using them alot more than I thought I would. I also have a set of the "professional" set with the lil lever for reversing in both standard and metric. On the right are my stubby wrenches. As a former airline mechanic, too many times to count I discovered some tasks that were all but impossible to do with a long-handled wrench.

Plier drawer. The drawer liners are actually shelf liners from Wally World. Of course you can go and get some from the tool aisle, but this is the exactr same stuff, it's cheaper, you get more, and there is a variety of colors available for contrasting/matching schemes.

Electrical "stuff" Just stuff that I've accumilated over the years. The boxes are from Wally-World's tackle box organizers. With these boxes, I snipped off the lids, and was free to move the dividers as needed. The drawer directly below this one has my miscellaneous fasteners organized in the same way in the same boxes.

The cart at the side is a galley cart from a CRJ that's got cleaners, waxes...etc.

I got the bottom box at full price, but the top one came from a floor model leftover/closeout. Ended up getting it at nearly half off. Before that I had the 26" rollaway boxes that had served me well.

The boxes that Sears sells as "Craftsman" are actually made by Waterloo Industries and they make alot of boxes that you'd see in Lowes, sometimes at Home Depot, among other stores. Do you have a "Tractor Supply Store" near you? I had seen some there at the store in Horn Lake Mississippi that looked nice and relatively cheap too.

I suppose I could upload some camera phone pics of my toolbox at work. After a rash of truck break-ins over the last couple months, I figured it wouldn't be long before the thieves broke into our shop, so I took a bunch of pics of my complete inventory. Just in case.

I'll load them up tomorrow.

Here we go. Have to do it as linkable thumbnails otherwise I'd be getting cursed out by those on dialup. Sorry about the poor quality on some of them.

These are my most commonly used sockets, ranging in size from 1/4" drive 3/16" to 1/2" drive 1-1/2". Mounted in the top of my box.

My screwdriver drawer.

My plier drawer.

Ratchets, extensions, other sockets that I don't use daily. And one of my torque wrenches.

Prybars, punches, chisels, crescent and pipe wrenches, files, etc.

Metric wrenches.

Standard wrenches.

Impact guns, air ratchets, and the other 2 of 3 torque wrenches.

Hammers, drifts, hack saw, snips. Basically a metal working drawer.

The rest of my air tools and a few other accessories. Job specific air couplers, impact driver, soldering gun.

Not much organization going on here. A puller set, a c clamp and a bunch of other stuff.

Front view.

Side view with my cart, creeper, and creeper seat.

Rear view, with my backup creeper.

That's pretty much it.

in these picture, you can see 2 of the 4 boxes.
all are full, and the desk drawers are full of tools also.
i am getting ready to get another box or 2 to fill up again.

What kind of box do you have there on the right, in the top picture there Tom?

I'm guessing a Snap On top, and a Craftsman bottom, but I can't tell for sure with the angle.

the big box is a Mac combo. 6 foot wide, 5 foot tall.

that box is strictly for the 1/2, 3/4, 1 inch drive stuff,
wrenches over 1 inch, specialty tools, and air tools.

I wrench for a living....man I wish I had all of the tools that I keep at work at home some days. It's hard to figure what I need to take home on the weekend truck wrenching setions.

No lie, I can honestly say that I have at least $20k in tools. A lot of Snap-On, a little Mac, a little Matco. Heck I have $8k in the two toolboxes alone (Mac Tech 1000 and a Snap On Road chest)! I'll have to get some pics.

I often worry about theft at work too. Gives me even more incentive to get some pics.

How do you like the Air Cat? I almost bought one before I got my IR2535Ti.

Looks like we got the same roller cart and creeper seat.
