I like the refresh. I especially like the idea of additional lighting towards the rear with the new led taillights. The current taillights have only 2 small slits of light from directly behind. They disappear in the rain to followers. Curious what the Limited interior color actually looks like. I'll get a 2018 something.... just not sure what.
Diesels are more expensive to maintain, repair and purchase up front. If you tow more often than you don't or drive non stop the fuel savings can make up for those other costs. For the average truck buyer they don't.
I'd figure this pan will be 12 quarts of oil every 10k miles. Figuring $60 per oil change isn't that bad. DEF every so often isn't bad either. Fuel filter every 15k. 5 quart jug of 15w40 at Walmart is about $18. When current trucks are needing 6-7 quarts done every 5-7500 miles it really isn't that bad. I do my own oil changes, because unlike some people, I don't mind turning a wrench and getting dirty. The ones that do complain are usually the ones that pay $120 per oil change. If it's cause they can't get rid of used oil and filters, they can look it up online or call a tire/lube shop, they'll usually take it for free. My county has a hazardous waste facility and does this stuff for free, long as you live within the county.
The only complaints I've heard with the 6.7 is the DEF heater can go out and it freezes...However a guy at work has a 2012 with a bad DEF heater and it's been bone chilling cold the last couple weeks (below zero F) and it hasn't froze yet. So hopefully Ford has a better design this time around for the 3.0L. I'd love to get 20mpg city and not 16mpg and get mid to high 20s or low 30s highway vs 19-20mpg. Keep in mind, in the largest configuration, the current F150s are lighter than the Range Rover these diesels are in. The Rover gets I believe 30mpg highway mind you with I believe a 7 speed automatic. I'll bet the F150 will get at least that. We usually know they are low on the diesel mpgs, because when independent testing is done, they get a bit better than advertised. The RAM EcoDiesel is at 29mpg highway, Diesel Power mag got it at just above 30mpg.
The fuel savings might take awhile to help offset the costs, but if I'm buying one, I'm keeping it for at least 8 years regardless of gas or diesel. Cause after 8 years in the experience my family has had with any vehicle, is when major issues pop up. To the Titan XD comparison, if I recall TFL got better mpg with the 5.6 gas than the diesel. Think it was 17.2mpg on diesel and 18 on gas without towing or hauling. Outside of competitions though, time to get up a hill towing means nothing to the average buyer. Long as it can tow safely, that's all that should matter.
Not to drag this off-topic, but the new Titans have a 100,000-mile bumper to bumper warranty, and after the redesign they're quite competitive. I would probably pick a Titan next go around for this reason alone.
That would be a game changer for Ford and for their customers. That would mean Quality would be Job 1.
I personally think that the 2018 grille looks like a cross between the global ranger and the current Super Duty. But then I think the current Super Duty looks like a production version truck of the old Super Chief concept truck. And nothing like a redesigned Silverado hd. But that's just my $0.02. Also can't wait to hear what the confirmed numbers are for the 5.0. And what exactly has all been changed about that engine. My 2011 F 150 has the 5.0 and I love it. I just hope that the new updated version will be a better towing/working mule than the version in my truck.
I think it looks great, curious on the new 5.0 numbers also. Not as excited to hear of start/stop on everything but I know the aftermarket tuners can turn it off for good.
Not that it effects me as I'll have my '11 for many years to come, but I love seeing the competition between the big 3.
I too am not excited about the auto start/stop tech. But that adaptive cruise control that'll stop and start the truck if traffic stops is pretty cool. As is being able to start the truck with your smart phone.
Doing your own maintenance certainly makes more financial sense on a diesel. Using the 6.7 as an example, paying for $120 oil changes and $100 to install both fuel filters(Another $80 or so parts cost from a shop) will eat away at any fuel savings quickly.
The importance of quality fuel cannot be stressed enough for diesels. The high pressure fuel system is very expensive to repair. It could be countered though(and I would agree 100%) that due to direct injection and more widespread use of forced induction fuel quality for gasoline engines is now more important than it has ever been.

Trouble is, diesel isn't regulated like gasoline is. However you do get better diesel at places that sell a lot, so places that have stalls for semis should have a bit better quality than a place that gets a handful of diesels a week. But shouldn't a cetane booster help this?
The more I look at the new grille, the more I like it! My Dad is still convinced that he hates it.
Does the black grille without the bar come with the sport appearance package only? I'm just trying to figure out in my head what my modern dream truck would be...

I'm betting that's the only way to get it, which would be fine for me since I like the sport appearance packages Ford has been offering.
Maybe not as bad as I thought at first. I wouldn't buy a new truck anyway it'd have to be slightly used 1-2 years. With that in mind in a few years I'd be hard pressed not to buy a Superduty vs the F150 since the line is becoming more blurred between the two.
