I realize it is your truck and do what you like......I just always felt that bedliner on the inside is a hack way of doing things.......and using under coating??? Even worse........it never really gets hard so it will be rubbing and peeling off and will stink for months replace the floor boards and order a mat or new carpet....Just my 2 cents

78 PEB, I totally agree with you. In almost any other pickup, I don't think I'd have done it, but this particular one is just a user, nothing special, and had some hack patch jobs on the floorboards already. And, since its not anything special, I didn't really want to spend the money on new sheetmetal, let alone a new floormat, but I did want it sealed up and protected as best I could, since it gets used pretty hard, as well as some soundproofing. I honestly can't say I'd do it again, even though it has worked well and is REALLY easy to clean out, just park on a sidehill and rinse with a garden hose and an old horse brush.

Both my Fords had (have) bedliner floors. They hold up just fine, and are great for a budget solution with easy maintenance. There's a big downside however, and that is no insulating properties. The trucks are warm in the summer and cool in the winter. If you only go short distances, then it probably isn't a big deal, but if you are into comfort (and you are asking about speaker wires, so I assume you are) I would recommend putting in a floormat or carpet kit after the bedliner.

On my 81, sorry not a dent side, after I replaced the floors, rockers, rear door posts and cab corners I put 2 coats of seam sealer on all joints and let dry a few days before I used Duplicolor bed coating 2 coats top and bottom with a 3" roller & brush.

I am also going to lay down carpet for heat & noise but I wanted something to protect the metal floor other than brush on paint.
Spray under coat can smell when it gets hot and can leave little holes for water to get thru and forum rust between under coat & metal.

Ok, I am going to put my 2 cents in since I have had personal experience with several brands and applications.

STAY AWAY FROM HERCULINER, DUPLICOLOR AND THE LIKE. They are a single part PAINT. If you want to go that route just get a gallon of black rustolium and throw a shovel of black beauty in it. It will be cheaper , last longer and give better traction.

NOW. Like stated above. Almost zero heat or sound resistance. If you are looking for quite, you can go with heat & Noise reducer from AL's Liner BUT it cannot get wet, it is only latex and will self destruct. It NEEDS to be topcoated with bed liner.

I have Used Rhino, Line-X, Reflex and Scorpion/AL's brand liners(along with the cheap 1 part paint crap)

I am REALLY sold on the Scorpion(AL's). It is sold to the general public, it is a 3 part epoxy and it is easy to apply($50 spray gun)

I did the full tub in my bronco because I run it all summer with no top so it gets wet. So some drain holes were added, tub was sandblasted, POR15 then Scorpion/ALs liner. I am very pleased with the results other than the Heat that comes in from the floor. Noise well no top kinda adds enough to over compensate the floor. I ran speaker wires thru 3/8" coated brake tube and held down with clamps.

In my 04 ranger I just redid, I plan on putting a 4bt Cummins in, in the spring. That I did the sandblast, Master Series, AL's heat/Noise reducer and topcoated with the Scorpion/ALs liner. The the factory rubber mat went in over top. It is SUPER quiet with the gas engine. I think it will be perfect with the cummins

I did it 11 years ago and it still looks like new, deadens sound and makes it impervious to dirt, mud, and rust. Take a look at this thread. The good thing about this was that he could spray it as thick as needed to hide the lips of the new floor pans and the rivet heads.

I like the look of that as well. Did you find that etc 3M undercoating offered good sound deadening as well? Like the OP, I'm looking to put in carpet/mat but want to put down sound deadening material first and am not crazy about the peel-n-stick.

Subscribing as facing the same decision. Carpet, bed liner, clear coat?

I also thought about hush mat but I hear that's a pretty penny.

Frank, my build is still in progress so I haven't been able to see whether or not it does a good job reducing noise but I do in fact plan on putting the adhesive sheets of sound deadening material over the top of the undercoating and a full floor mat over that. I'm assuming that will cut down the noise sufficiently.

Mine is also a work in progress but I plan to do rug with padding over the Dupli color liner.
The rug with padding help with heat & noise, besides its an old truck how quite will it be?

My 79 is pretty quiet. After I put the fabric on the headliner, it got a lot quieter. I was pleasantly surprised.

Don't just think about the floor-consider the whole cab...
