Evening everyone, got the starter out this morning and bench tested it and it toast . Drove to Dryden and picked up a brand new one cheaper than they wanted for a rebuilt one here in town and didn't require a core charge and did the rest of our shopping while there..It's going to be rather cold tomorrow installing it though...
I bought a brand new ''Champion brand'' starter at Parts Source for that 83 Mustang convertible cause the old one was dragging when hot and it turned out the new one wasn`t any better. Careful not to freeze your fingers John.

I never heard of Champion starters before buying that one and I wish I never tried it. By the time I found out that it really dragged in hot weather the warranty was over.
I have one in my 56 pickup and it works good, good warranty too..2 year roadside where they pay to have the vehicle towed and lifetime on the starter..
