Do motor mounts deteriorate?

When under heavy load and high RPM, the drivetrain vibration feels more severe than I think it should. Sounds as though the engine wants to come though the firewall when wide-open and loaded down.

Do the factory motor mounts absorb any vibration or are they solid? If they absorb vibration, do they wear out?

Thanks,

-Mike

Yep, the rubber can break down. Bad motor mounts are pretty damn noisy and "vibrate-y"

If you have access to someone that has a VCM2 I would also run a contribution test.
An injector acting up will shape things fairly good too.

But yes the mounts do have a rubber portion and if exposed to some chemicals
they can break down over time. Should not be too hard to swap in some new
rubbers if you have a cherry picker type hoist.

Take a look at them and see how the rubber looks and feels.

U joints or drive shaft carrier bearing could also be going south and showing up at higher rpm's and torque. Put the truck in drive and do a power brake. Does the engine appear to torque up more than normal?

Mike is right and I had a carrier bearing go on me. It was almost
like running over a rumble strip that went on forever as long as
you were on the throttle. Take you foot off and coast and it settled down.

Merry Christmas

Thanks for the replies. I've inspect U-joints closely and I can not see anything or detect any driveline slop.

I'll inspect the motor mounts and see what it would take to get a VCM2 test performed.

Thank you for your assistance.
