a/c bypass pulley

I lost the compressor in my 03 expo 5.4 at the end of this summer. Figured no big deal, its cooling down. It only gets driven, maybe 100 miles a month. Last week I noticed it making one hell of a racket, so I tore into it last night. Found the a/c clutch bearing to be siezed. I need to get this thing up and running for a backup vehicle. A quick google search brings results for an f150, but nothing says it fits an expedition.

Has anyone tried one of the doorman or other make , bypass pulleys ? If so, what do you recommend?
Thanks

Just as a suggestion, why bother with a $50 bypass pulley. Instead install a $150 compressor so that come next spring you can get the A/C working.

I had the same thought , but most places will not give a warranty on the compressor unless you also buy a condenser and o-tube. last thing I want is to find out I have a bad compressor with no warranty , come summer

Cheapest option is to just replace the bearing:

More Information for SKF 5106WCC

I'm sure there are cheaper bearings out there as well, no need for an SKF if it's not gonna stay too long.

As for getting the AC back working, if the old compressor failed, you need to also replace expansion valves, condenser, and the receiver/drier. The reason is that in most compressor failures, the compressor sends debris into the system, and these particular components can't be flushed. The rest of the remaining system has to be flushed. Four Seasons has a kit containing all you need except condenser for a little over 300 bucks, so that's a good start.

I understand what you're saying but at the same time you can purchase those items in the spring and install them then if you want your warranty protected. My though on buying the compressor now is it will save you from wasting $50 on the bypass pulley. No one will stock the pulley so you're stuck waiting for it to ship anyway. So might as well go over to rockauto.com and order the compressor instead. Just my 2-cents.

Hi, I just installed a Dorman a/c bypass pulley for my 03 Escape v6, wanted to see if there is any difference, $30 dollars on amazon and works fine.

If you change the idler pully to a ribbed pulley instead of smooth, and get a smaller belt you can bypass the compressor. I don't have the part numbers handy; but I've done it before and works fine.
