I hate when people top trees for their Christmas tree. Lazy people. SMH.
Gonna get cold tonight, single digits. Right now it's 27 and on the decline. What are your temps, Rick?

The porch is showing 25* right now. It's the frozen tundra out there. I'm at my parents right now. They live in a creek valley and the house doesn't get hit by sun for 70 days in the winter. It stays south behind the mountain and we grow permafrost...

The apartment I am in is on the north side of the complex and the sun does not hit the windows. Both sides of the sidewalk leading to my door are covered with moss. LOL I think I am going to like it in the summer. Still enough light to charge my solar keyboard though.

Heck ya. Toyo MT's. Only tires I've ran on this truck in the 5 years I've had her.

That'll be nice Jim. Help stay cool down there when the rest of the town is melting.

I haven't cut a live Christmas tree since I was 13 or so, so I have no clue what the etiquette is regarding cutting your own.

Why is it not cool to top a tree? If one is too tall, and you only want the top 6 feet or so, why not? Does it kill the tree?

Maybe. Maybe not. Lots of conifers can have a top branch turn and become the new crown.

Many people though fall the entire tree just for the top. 20-30 foot trees...

Ohhhh, I gotcha now. I didn't realize they cut down the whole tree and then topped it. I figured they just didn't want the whole 15+ foot tree so they reached up and cut just above their head or something.

We used to go cut as kids with Dad, those trees looked so small out in the Big Forest, until you try to stand it up in the living room , roughly 3 to 4 times the size of a normal size tree you get today from off the corner lot, we asked Mom and Dad ( does this mean Santa going to totally fill the underneath with Presents :confused

Never cut our own tree as kids.

Happy Sunday Nor Cal. Hope everyone has a blessed day.

Beginning to look like a normal apartment now. Living room, dining room, and kitchen have been done. Bathroom too. Bedroom however, still looks like a storage unit. LOL. Will tackle that when I get home from church. Will also get my TV back so I can set it up. Loaned it to a friend for the Thanksgiving get together, since there were 25 people and 9 of them kids, it was decided to put my TV in the oldest boy's room, so the kids could have something to do.

Glad you're getting settled there Jim.

When we moved to Minnesota, we lived about a mile from an old, abandoned Christmas tree farm. So for a couple of years we would pull out the "big" sled, drag it to the farm, chop down a suitable tree, and drag it on the sled back to the house.

It was kind of a fun outing, as long as the temperature was not in the negative digits. The 2 mile hike in the woods was not bad as long as there wasn't too much snow.

Was 49 degrees here when I woke up. I did not sleep with the heater on, and woke up with a sore throat. Guess I will have to bundle up some more. I don't like the huge bill I get when I leave the heater on all night (yes it does cycle on and off depending on the inside temp) so I have resigned myself to adding extra blankets. Obviously I need one more. LOL
