OK all, I finally have a truck again! Got the transmission adjusted, front end aligned and now I am just working out the gremlins... That said, my wipers are acting funny and I need to track it down but I figured I'd ask you guys for ideas first. When I turn my wipers on they initially move, then they seem like they just lock up but I can hear the motor trying to turn them... If I turn them off and then back on they immediatley cycle one time then seemingly come to a stop...but again I can here the motor working. I can also here noises (not sure but i think its under the dash) that sound like shorting/clicking etc.. I bought a new motor thinking it might be an old motor, but the new motor does the same thing. Any ideas? Also, I tried it at night and noticed that when i turned the wipers on (and they intially stop) the dash lights dim momentarily.
Did you try running the motor without the linkage hooked up. I know it's a pain but sounds like something is binding up or hitting somewhere. Just a thought
Sounds like something is bound up in the linkage of the wiper arms. Disconnect the motor and cycle them, paying close attention to each connection and pivot point. You're bound to find the problem that way.
Yes, I had the Arms completely disconnected because I wanted to make sure I put the Arms in the right location when the motor turned. I am trying to think what (if anything) under the dash would be involved. Something I just thought of.... I am wondering if I have an intermittent switch... there seems to be several switch positions when I turn the switch... the original wiring harness is from an 89 with no intermittent, but the switch may be from the new cab... a 93/94 I removed the wiring harness to keep it all to the original vehicle but may have used that switch... I need to check that.
That's the info that internet mechanical like me need to knw. 89 cab with some? 92ish parts? It all worked until you changed parts or it never worked since you have had it
It used to work, but the truck has been in parts since Nov of 2014, I have rebuilt the entire truck, (see my profile photos). Everything in the interior is (or was working) Everything else seems to work fine. All gauges, Lights, Heater, AC, Radio, Interior lights, my horn doesn't work too well... very quiet... I used an old horn I pulled from the junkyard (it looks in good shape) so that may be it, but I am wondering if there is anything they both use that may be causing the problem. When I originally tried to turn on the wipers a couple of weeks ago, the arms were not in the right location and they went down to low, and basically the motor could not turn them any further. I didn't realize what had happened at first so the motor was trying for 10-15 seconds before I realized it and turned it off. again, No other electrical issues are evident as yet... (I knew I would need to work out some Gremlins)... I Realized I could not use the newer Wiring harness because FORD went to the digital Speedometer in 92 (or thereabouts) so I kept the Original harness, (it is in good shape) I think the Intermittent wiper switch won't fit the non-intermittent connection... but I thought about it when I was writing you before. I will check that tonight. The non intermittent should have 3 settings, (Correct) OFF/LOW/HIGH, and you push it in to operate the fluid pump... Mine seems to have 4 or 5 positions. (Which is what makes me think it might not be the correct one...
Ok all, I worked on it today and was able to determine that I was missing the intermitent connection. I ad simply plugged the harness into the switch, and the harness went over to the governor . I took the intermittent box/connector off the other wiring harness and plugged it in and everything works fine. Thanks for the help..
