wiper blade return

I have a 77 f250 4wd. I bought it after it had been sitting for some time. I have one problem though which I cant seem to get. The wiper works well, hi-lo no problems. However when I turn it to the off position the blades stop right where they are. I changed the wiper-washer switch with one I know to be working. same result. I dont think there is anything wrong with the wiper motor, although I have an extra I could install but I am shooting in the dark. What else should I be looking at
Thanks in advance

You will have to replace the motor

There is a set of contacts inside the motor assembly that dictate where the motor stops when the switch is turned off. It shouldn't be too hard to rustle up a replacement, just the thrill of standing on your head to install it under the dash. Good Luck!

Make sure it's wired correctly at the motor, and you have power there all the time. stephenw is correct about the contacts, but when you turn the power off from the wiper switch, there is another wire going to the wiper motor that is hot all the time, so the motor can continue to follow through till the switch inside tells it to stop.
