I have searched the forums I see this is a kinda common issue but never find a definitive answer where to look

Starts runs, kinda rough at first but nothing terrible
Engine gets hot, it cranks forever to start will chug and die, then finally fire up. The last time this happens I had a HORRIBLE gas smell I mean horrible like it flooded.
Pretty much all the parts on this including the motor have been replaced in the last 2 years - it was a "restored" truck
Fuel pump has not been changed!
Sounds a lot like the fuel pressure regulator bad. Pull the vacuum line off of it and see of it is leaking fuel past the diaphram in it. That will flood one out.
Just fixed a 302 with same symptoms that was dumping all the fuel pressure into intake through the regulator vacuum line because a failed diaphram in the regulator. Easy to check. Pull the vac line off
