My buddy called to say the oil pan on Henry (351W) is in the wrong place for the IFS he is installing. It looks like the engine is stock with a front sump. (He told me but I forgot). So I need a rear sump but all I see are racing sumps for big bucks. What did you guys do that put 302/351 engines in your '48-'52 F-1s?
Getting a rear sump oil pan is just half the battle...you must also replace the oil pump and the pickup and one main cap bolt.
351W oil pump is the same with or without a rear sump pan. It's also the same as 1969/89 351W's used in cars (D9AZ-6600-A replaced C9OZ-6600-A).
But the 351W's rear sump pan uses a different oil pump pickup tube and the special stud is required to attach it to the right side of #3 main bearing cap.
D6TZ-6345-A (replaced C6TZ-6345-A) .. Stud - 1/2" -13 x 3/8" -16 x 4 11/16."
This stud is the same as: 1966 F100 352 4WD; 1967 F100/250 352 4WD; 1968/76 F100/250 360 4WD

OK Bill, since I can't seem to get this right...take a look at this pic of a 460 and tell me if this oil pump will work for a front AND rear sump oil pan. I know that on one of the engines I have in my trucks I had to change the oil pump when I changed the oil pan configuration. The front sump pickup pointed down whereas the rear sump pickup pointed towards the rear. If it wasn't the 351W or the 302 then the only engine I have left is this 460. I may be getting old but my memory isn't that far gone yet!
I ordered the oil pan swap kit from Don Wood. It was $120.00, $50.00 less that suggested list price. It includes the pan, gaskets, pickup and dipstick. It is for a 351W in a Fox body.
