Does anyone know what engine will fit directly in my 1982 Ford F100.It currently has a 255cu.in. V8 (which is a real flop)with an automatic trans. I want to go bigger and better. But I don't want to get tie up in a lot of modifications.
If the truck has a C4 you should be able to put in a 302, or 351w. Motor mounts might change but if your wanting to know if it will hook up to your tranny it should. All the rest should be pretty simple.
351w you will need a different exhaust y-pipe, and you have to make sure you get a engine with a rear sump, or get a 351w rear sump pan from the junkyard.
A 302 will bolt in, but it needs to have the dipstick hole in the rear of the block, to go along with the rear sump pan. The older bronco rear sump pans had the dipstick in the pan, but I don't know if any of the later 302 rear sump pans had the dipstick in the pan. Any of the 80's up 302's will usually work out of a car or truck because some of the cars had a dual sump pan, and they had the dipstick in the rear of the block. You could then just use the rear sump pan off the 255.
