I have a 80 Bronco ,would like to put in a hot little 351w, the problem is the engine is a pre 74' (engine code diae).I have looked almost everywhere for a oil pan(rear sump).Does anybody have an idea or answer?
what motor is in your truck now. You should be able to pick a pan up at almost any wrecking yard. just get one for a 351 doesnt matter what year because they all fit.
I want to put this pre-74 351W in a 80 Bronco that had a 302....
Contradictory to popular beliefs not ALL 351W blocks will except an any year 351W oil pan, because of the difference in the years built. The one that I need HAS to be a rear sump model, in which I don't even know if there is such a thing. But maybe there is another vehicle that has an oil pan like what I need....For instance out of a Van or whatever!!!!
I'm starting to think that I will need to cut the flange off of the one I have from the 351W and weld a rear sump pan onto it !
Any other ideas????
As much as I LOVE going to the junkyard, I can't be taking off EVERY oil pan I see, to see if it fits or not LOL
all 351w blocks are the same. so finding a rear sump oil pan is as easy as calling your local yard and finding one from a mid 80's van, truck that was 4x4. now there are different models of 351 there is the clevland, and modified and the windsor. the clevland and modified are different then the Windsor.
OK I have been on the internet all day, I think I know what I need to fix my problem !!! Its a double sump oil pan.... So I'm off to the Auto wreckers....The 302 is a Front sump and the 351W I have is a rear sump sooooooooooooo off I go!
Well I've been to the wreckers most of the day,got two pans out ,(not easy with engine still attached).Much to my suprise two diifferent pans.Well I think I will rest for a few days and try to get my hands clean, and let the scrapes heal.
Went to the Auto wreckers again on Saturday. Everybody said that the only vehicle that would have a double sump oil pan was a 1979 LTD, or a 80's Crown Victoria police service vehicle .... Or order one that is available as a conversion!!! UGH BUT!
Well I guess I got lucky cause I found a double sump oil pan, like Brand new, on a 1988 Bronco w a 351W, which must of been the same thing done to it, as I have to do, on this 351W as well :-) There was a 79 LTD there too BONUS, but it was way to hard to get at, so we decided to take a look at this Broncos first, as it def looked like what I needed, but ya can't tell till you see the bolt pattern... but BINGO it is a 7 quart dual sump oil pan and I paid a Whopping $3.00 Canadian for it :-) To buy it, which it appeared I might of had to do would of been $300.00 US or take off the LTDs and maybe it would of not been right either...
So as of 3 pm yesterday my Hot little 351W is up and running and puuuurs like a Lion . Went back to the Auto wreckers on Sunday the whole LTD was gone and so was the engine out of the bronco I got the oil pan from. Like I said I got lucky!!!!
