I have been scouring for the info without much luck. I want to have the bolts on hand ahead of doing a water pump change next week and want to have replacement bolts on hand for the water pump and all accessories. I have a 71 F250 with a 360. It has aftermarket A/C and we will be adding power steering.
I am having back surgery in two weeks and want to have them on hand as I have a short window to make sure the boy's truck is fully up and running before surgery as he will get his license while I am on the mend.
So, if anyone has the bolt sizes I would greatly appreciate your help. Or if you know of a bolt kit (keep in mind this is a bone stock motor) that contains all of what I need that may work too. I just do not want to go buy a kit that contains bolts for an entire motor. I may need that at a later date, just not right now.
According to the parts catalog, the water pump has (3) 3/8"-16 X 1 3/8" and (1) 3/8"-16 X 1¼" bolts and (4) 3/8" lock washers.
With adding power steering and having add on air makes getting a list of fasteners will be a little complex.
What I would do is just get a selection of bolts to have on hand. The bolts for the power steering brackets and A/C (factory), from what I see, are all 3/8"-16.
I would get five or six bolts ¾", 1", 1¼", 1½" to have on hand, along with lock washers. The parts list also calls for a 2" long 3/8"-16 stud used without A/C. So, because you have add-on air, your truck may or may not have this stud.
Also, use, at minimum, grade 5 bolts, don't use grade 2. Grade 2 have no markings on the head, grade 5 will have 3 lines on the head of the bolt.
Also, I hope all goes well with your back surgery.
mike, that was exactly what I was looking for! I recently found on online old copy of a parts catalog, but still trying to look through it to figure it out. Where did you find the that info?
Perfect info on the bolts. I will be headed to the hardware store tomorrow to pick up a bunch of bolts and some anti-sieze. I am going to mic out a couple of the holes I am not using currently so I can have bolts on hand for those as the PS goes in.
I have copies of the parts catalogs. They can be difficult to read (decipher) especially when it comes to "standard hardware", that's the parts that have a part number that ends in -Sxx.
In the illustrations the part number listed for hardware usually isn't the complete number. They never have the numbers that follow the "S", you need to look them up in the text section, the kicker, they don't always list the hardware in the text section but when they do, it'll have the actual physical description (i.e. Bolt, hex head, 3/8"-16 X 1¼").
Mike, good to know. I have a digital copy of an older version I found online, but to be honest my Pontiac one for my Trans Am is easier. Maybe I just need to spend some more time with it so learn the intricacies. I may purchase the one I found online for a hard copy.

Yeah, Ford kinda does their own thing when it comes to the parts catalog.
It may not seem like it, but it does follow a logical layout, you just need to study it and learn how its laid out....some imagination and a sense of humor helps.
If you do get the catalog and run into some problems figuring it out, let me know and I'll see if I can help.
