I have only taken the top off my Bronco two times and that makes the third of its life that I know of. but the other day when I tried to take out one of those PITA bolts the head broke off. This is the second time a bolt has broken in my Bronco. Now that the head is off the bolt that back drivers corner of the top doesn't look like it is on right and I am afraid that I might break the fiberglass if I don't get in bolted down. has anybody tried to replace the factory bolts with any other kind or does anybody have any sugestions for getting the rest of the bolt out?
you can replace the bolt with regular bolts just use the same lenth and thread, i personaly havent done it but im read on here of poeple who have. hope this help and good luck! DW
I have replaced mine. Assuming yours are the same as my 96 you should be able to get them at a NAPA store or somewhere of the like. You wont have any luck at most of the chain parts stores. They are metric but I cant remember the size, just carry one of each length with you. I went back with grade 8 bolts because of the same problem.
Just FYI, I have never replaced all dozen or so bolts in the top on mine. A total of four have been holding it down for the past two years. Never had any problems running it this way but I do agree that once those $%^&* tamper-proof Torx are out, leave 'em out and drop hex heads in their place.
Thanks figured it would come in handy. For the five bolts that go across the top you may want to angle the ends of the bolts kinda like the originals. On mine getting the bolts to line up with the hard threaded spots on the cab tends to be a PITA especially since the little rivets were long ago sheared off before I bought the truck.
