About 1980 I bought a '74 Lincoln for the engine and trans for my '68 CS. I took the tail shaft and housing from the '68 C6 and installed it in the 385 C6. I used the original transmission mount. It's not a slip joint.
Thanks for the reply let me ask you this did the output shaft just slide out or did you mess with that at all ? From what read on the short tail housing truck C6 only the 4x4 will the out put shaft just slide out the 2WD trucks had a C Clip holding it in .
my delema is pulling out the trans to swap to the longer 14" tail shaft or if I can just use gear Vendors shaft that comes in the kit I did not want to remove my entire transmission just looking for someone who did it but as ll I found do far is the highboy 68-72 that output shaft just slides out .
It was over 40 years ago and I don't remember what I had for breakfast this morning. Sorry. If there's an old transmission shop in your neighborhood they might be able to help. C&O Transmissions in Gardena always built my transmissions in those days.
