Fixed yoke C6???

It has come to my attention that, evidently, there is such a thing as a fixed yoke C6. Claimed to be of the 68-72 truck variety.

I have never seen one in a truck, car, bus, boat or airplane for that matter.

Is it a white elephant? Or was this a normal thing?

I'm guessing you're referencing the companion flange that attaches to the output shaft with a large nut --similar to what's on my C-4 in the following photos?

C-6 reference drawing.

Close. The drawing is even closer. So this is really a thing. How common was it? I'm guessing not very....

This is the picture I was shown. I've not seen anything like it on a C6 before. Only on 4wd transfer cases and in the heavy duty world....

Did that come out of a pick-up or a P-series?

The guy said 68-72 truck. I don't know what it's actually out of.

The drawing I included a link to says it's for '68-'72 F100 through F350 V-8.

Right. Has anyone ever actually seen one? Obviously this wasn't the norm...

Upper pic: Companion flange located on rear axle, shown as 4851

Lower (upper) pic: Example of driveshaft with so called "fixed" yoke. 1973 was the first year that F100/250 4WD's were available with A/T

My 68 F250 has it Garret. But unknown what the tranny came out of. My rig has a 460 with a C6 the Po put in it now. Was originally a 390 and C6. But we all know the 390 tranny won't bolt up to a 460. The peanut plug 460 looks to be out of a 73 T-Bird or Lincoln. Was with a 1973/76 Dent fuel pump. DOVE intake. So it's a real JY blend I guess.
*
Edit. I've always assumed a 2 piece driveshaft would have a fixed yoke tranny.

Don't all bumps have a 2 piece driveshaft? I've got a 2 piece shaft with a slip yoke trans.

No. Looking up driveshafts there are a bunch of choices. But all the SWB ones are approx. 58-60" long and the LWB rear 1/2 shafts are approx. 38-40". So long bed rigs got a 2 piece and short bed rigs got a 1 piece from what I'm seeing.
So you have a slip yoke in the driveshaft and a 2nd one at the tranny?

I kinda remember shortbeds having one piece shafts now that you mention it.

Yep! One in the shaft behind the carrier bearing, and one at the transmission.

My '69 Shorty has a single driveshaft (no two-piece here).

I guess it's a good thing you do. Would have been difficult to install that AOD of yours otherwise.

What size is the output shaft fixed flange nut.? Is it readily available?
