Starter bolt size

I lost my starter bolt today and I desperately need to know the specs. Can anyone help?

I went to the garage and this is what I found:

1) 10mm x 1.5 tap goes into the hole in the spacer.

2) 10mm x 1.5 die will not go onto the bolt.

3) The bolt is about 1 1/4" long. That should be about 30mm.

4) The head on the bolt is 17mm.

5) The head has 8.8 stamped into it.

I'm thinking that if you go to ACE and get a 1 1/4" long 8mm x 1.5 grade 8 bolt it should do the job.

Awesome, Thank you! I would have searched the forum, but I'm mobile and for some reason the search box won't work. Thanks again Walleye Hunter.

Well, I guess it's not called a starter bolt. Ford can't find it and I am thinking I may have to go to the junk yard. This bolt I need is really a transmission bolt. It holds the transmission, the spacer and the starter together. Does anyone know about this bolt.

I have them out in the garage too, but I'm out of town for the weekend.

Are you needing the bellhousing-to-engine bolts or the two starter mounting bolts? There are 6 total bellhousing mounting bolts - 2 shorter and 4 longer ones. IIRC, they are M12 x 1.75. Unsure of the lengths though.

All of the bolts on your truck are metric. Class 8.8 (Metric) is equivalent to Grade 5 (SAE). Class 10.9 = Grade 8.

I finally got it from the Ford Stealership lol. $17.80 Had to get a mechanic in their shop to come look at the pic I took of Location and he told Parts man where to find the bolt on his puter. Bell housing bolt is it. Weeeves got the specs right. Parts guy kept trying to sell me another bolt that was not it....$57 bolt lol. Go Figure. Thanks guys!

Use a little red loctite on two threads only or they continue to fall out. Blue locktite didn't work.

Take your starter bolt to your local hardware store.
Find a nut that fits your bolt, then find the bolts that fit that nut.
You have found the part(s) you need.
That's how I do it.

when I replaced my starter, I got the one that used 3 bolts (not 2) and used the locktite.
the bolts kept falling out prior to that and I almost lost my starter once... It was dangling by a bolt thread ... literally...

Make sure you clean the bolt holes real good with brake cleaner to get the grease and oil out.. that will help the locktite hold better..
