Do I have to tap into the feed right off the brake pedal in order for the light not to flash when I turn on a turn signal. Anybody got a picture or diagram?
Thanks
What year? On my 94 there is a single wire plug under the hood already marked with a tag "third brake light feed" for just this purpose. It's on the drivers side innner fender well in the area near the fuse box and below the brake master kind of. You still have to run a wire back to the canopy along the frame, but it's easier than hacking into your brake light wire.

This is only on the trucks with an E4OD transmission.

How so? My truck is a 5 speed ZF-5 and has the plug plain as daylight, it's even hooked up to my canopy with what I must assume is a ford accessory harness, since it has the matching plug, and it works as expected. What's different about the auto vs manual that precludes Ford adding a convenient pigtail for a canopy third brake light?
It doesnt matter stick or auto.(94+ trucks)
There is a 3rd brake light wire(light green) at the back of the truck where the bed wiring harness plugs into the truck harness

Just going by the 1994 & 1995 Ford wiring diagrams and that is what they said:
A few 1996+ trucks had a wire at the back bumper to tie onto.

I think you are misinterpretting that wiring diagram. From my perspective, the arrows point to the splice and the wiring after it that goes to the PCM.
By comparison, look at the section for the Bronco.... if you're saying the C104 connector (the part that says "For Customer Use") does not exist on manual trucks, then you would also be saying that manual broncos do not have a signal from the brake switch to the 4wabs controller.
The wiring diagram to me says that manual trucks and broncos do not send a brake signal to the PCM, which is not strange at all... there's no torque converter to unlock when you step on the brakes, and you can see elsewhere in the diagram where the brake signal is sent to the speed control, for shutting off cruise when the brake is depressed.
Also, anecodotelly.... my factory 5 speed truck has a C104 connector specifically labeled "Center High Mount Stop Lamp Feed".
As for the OP, your 87 probably doesn't even have a third brake light on the cab, they weren't required on light trucks until 1994. If you want the one on your canopy to work, you'll have to splice into the brake light wiring somewhere either under the hood or under the dash.

I have a 1996 XL 4.9L 5 speed and can not find the plug. Any help?

This saved my butt. So many threads on the Internet saying to run a wire from the front to the back and tap into all these different places. Behind the rear bumper sticking out of the body harness was a little green wire with some black heat shrink on it. Made this job so easy. It was there on both my 96 F150 XL 4.9 single cab and my 97 F250 XLT 7.3 extended cab.

Hummmm, my 95 5.0 M5OD R2 Its an XLT/EDDY BAUER Edition and I finally found the 3rd brake light plug as described here. I didn't have the plug going out so I just soildered a wire to it and ran it down and back then up to the topper. Got an inexpensive LED bar light. Silicon caulked it on the lift glass top frame and clamped in place over night. Works like a champ and has never shook loose even on these long rough gravel driveways or down in the woods hauling wood. Some have the 3rd BL plug and some may not. I got lucky, , that info. Was supplied by another brother on this forum about 4 years ago.
