Wiring third brake light for canopy shell

I picked up a used canopy for my 94 F150. It has a third brake light (LED) and a dome light (regular 916 type bulb) I would like to wire in myself. I have an aftermarket trailer brake controller, not factory, and it does not look like I have the green wire that some of these trucks had that was designed for the specific purpose of hooking up a camper brake light.

The canopy shop said they need to run a wire all the way back to the brake pedal. They also wanted over $100 to do it. What say you all? And what is my best source for getting power for the dome light?

Thanks in advance.

There is a lot of places to pick up the power on wire #511 or 569.

Yes you want to tap into power at the switch on brake pedal, if you tie into the tail lights the 3rd light will flash with the turn signals.

Thanks. I guess since I am running a wire all the way up to the cab for the brake I might as well give the dome light its own fuse and power source off of the fuse box. Kind of what I thought I would have to do but its good to hear clarification.

Note in the diagram above they left you a wire to use, C104.
C104 is located on the LH side of engine compartment, side of wheel well. It is a 4 Terminal Gray connector.

Nice looking truck. Good luck with the wiring.

I don't recommend it, but whoever did mine scotch-locked into the brake light line of my trailer plug.

For the brake light, you could try pulling down the harness for the cab roof brake light / cargo lights, since they'll obviously be of no use now. Extend that brake light feed back to the topper.

Finally got around to messing around with this, and this post wins the thread.

Which really makes you wonder what they were thinking putting it under the hood, but there it was, attached to a dummy plug fastened to the wheel well on the driver's side. Thank you good sir.

One last question for the electrical noob....can I assume that this wire is fused somewhere since it is on the brake light switch circuit? Or do I need to run a small inline fuse?

There is no fuse between the BOO switch and that plug C104 but the BOO switch is has a 15 amp fuse #13 feeding it.
An incandescent lamp draws a lot of current where an LED does not.

I would put a 10 amp fuse in line with the new lamp.

Bless you Child for that pic and location for this connection. I could not find that little green wire at the rear of my truck. My towing harness has 3 large looms that converge at a 3 way plug style connection for heavy tow package. This little dead end plug under the hood was well hidden but with pics and general location I finally found it and my blood pressure immediately dropped 40 points to back near normal. Thanks much

I'm also trying to wire in my camper shell brake light to this connector. Anybody have a link or part number for what I need to plug into this pigtail? Or should I just cut the connector off and splice in a long wire all the way to the tailgate?
